It's hard for me to swallow the idea that Apple would be so rigid, but it's hardly inconsistent with their profile as control freaks, especially when it comes to the UI. I don't buy it that this is a Cingular limitation. Cingular sells Windows Mobile phones and these are obviously open to 3rd party software.
